Marion Baker, Author of The Lime Green Plastic Covered Couch – Insight for Women Who Struggle to Find Lasting Love

Have all your relationships been failures? Do you get into a relationship thinking this might be the one, only to have the union crumble in the end? Do you feel like you don’t attract the right men at all?

Sadly, you’re not the only one out there who is experiencing issues when it comes to romance. Just like you, other women too have trouble finding what we call “lasting love.”

However, there are some women who have gone through all this pain and trouble and ended up finding The One. One of these women is Marion Baker, who searched in vain for someone who wanted to share a lasting relationship with them. And when she found the one she’s been searching for all her life, she didn’t just want to have a happy ending with him. She chose to to share her experience with others as a way to help them find someone who would want to spend the rest of their lives with them.

Marion’s advice and experience are detailed in her book called, “The Lime Green Plastic Covered Couch – Insight for Women Who Struggle to Find Lasting Love.”

The Lime Green Plastic Covered Couch

Marion was just like any other woman trying to find a relationship. She went through years of blind dates, all of which wound up unsuccessful. She tried her luck with meet and greets, but still to no avail. She even bought into technology as a way to meet people through internet dating, but that didn’t bring her any luck either.

Still single and in her mid-forties, Marion was just fed up. It’s one thing to end a relationship, but it’s another to keep leaving a failed one behind.

“What is the secret to lasting relationships?”, she wondered. It then hit her that she had absolutely no clue what it is. She also knew that she wasn’t alone in this.

This became her inspiration to explore our own self-deflating patterns more deeply. She took it upon her to understand our subconscious and how it leads us to heartbreak. As a result, she has created the book, The Lime Green Plastic Covered Couch – Insight for Women Who Struggle to Find Lasting Love, as a way to offer pioneering insights that would help women find lasting love.

To know more about Marion Baker, watch out for her Google Hangout interview with Philippe Matthews next week. Check it out now!

Author, Renée Mollan-Masters, Live on Google Hangouts with Philippe Matthews

In 1992, You Are Smarter Than You Think – the book – was published. The learning system is being used in many colleges and universities all over the country. The aim of the program is to make education a much worthwhile experience for students everywhere.

You Are Smarter Than You Think offers two self-evaluations for readers. The first makes use of Howard Gardner’s inventory while the second one is more about how we process language.

Once the reader knows where they stand, the book then guides them on how to better listen to a lecture, read a textbook, study for a test and take a test. As a result of using the brain the way it was meant to, students can retain information for much longer. This is in stark contrast to just memorizing the lessons for use in exams.

Using Our Brains the Right Way Yields Success

Over the past years, students have responded with astounding results to the tips presented in You Are Smarter Than You Think. Take these figures for example:

  • 84% said their grades improved

  • 92% mentioned their study hours decreased

  • 87% reported much lower stress levels

  • 79% found they remembered what they learned even months after

The book written by Renée Mollan-Masters isn’t just a guide for students, but it can serve as an inspiration for teachers as well to transform what is being presented so that students absorb lessons much better. When they understand the lessons, they won’t need to devote a whole lot of time studying.

Dr. Carol Soloway will be Interviewed by Philippe Matthews via Google Hangout

Women’s fiction has been around for a very long time, but it really skyrocketed in 2012 with the release of Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy by EL James. Although there were some faults with the trilogy, the sales and everything that had to do with it – including a film adaption that just released its first trailer – shows that there is an audience for women’s stories. Not just erotica in general, but stories that vividly describe sex scenes.

Even a renowned author like Anne Rice – who is undoubtedly most famous for the series of vampire novels she put out – has dabbled in erotica. Under the pen name AN Roquelare, Rice released a trilogy of women’s fiction.

Lots of writers have included a bit of sensuality in their work, and with the rise of erotic literature, we are now witnessing an audience that is more acceptable of the inclusion of sex in the books they read. Even some self-published authors are taking on the subject of erotica and including it in their books.

And all this talk brings us to one Carol Soloway who published a novel called Sex Happens and yes, there’s a lot of sex in the book, but it’s so much more than that. There’s actually a plot!

Before delving into the work of Carol, it’s time to take a brief look into her life first. Check this complete post and mark your calendars now to Watch the Live Interview this coming October 23!

True Tom North, The Real Story Behind “Yours, Mine and Ours”

In his book, Tom starts out with life in the 1950s when the Norths lost their father. “Here she was, preparing to deliver another child without her husband present; something she has done before, but this time was very different. Dick North would never came home again.

It goes on to describe how they – the Norths – were adopted and their last names changed to Beardsley. And although the films depicted them as a loving and happy family, the portrayal was further from the truth.

In fact, Lucille Ball had first glimpses of what it was really like living with the Beardsleys. She was researching for her role as Helen Beardsley and came to their home to observe them for a few days. She didn’t stay long though and came to Helen and told her, “You keep that man away from me.”

Tom felt like he was in prison with no way out. However, he did leave home and went on a journey of self-discovery, as well as that of healing and survival.

Years after he left, he led his family in counseling sessions where they each revealed shocking truths. He came full circle and left the name Beardsley behind to take that of his fathers – North.

True North is a deep look into the truths behind the lies of a family perceived by many as a happy one, but had deep dark secrets buried within. The book shows that with truth, healing and forgiveness is possible.

Tom Today

Tom has become a successful financial advisor, writer, poet and adventurer. He is married to Connie and both of them are parents to two daughters. Tom has written a lot about scuba diving, jade hunting in Big Sur, as well as spiritual topics.

Mark Anthony – The Psychic Lawyer and Inspirational Author

The Promise of Hope

Grief can destroy a person and can even kill. That’s how serious it can be, especially for someone who doesn’t know how to properly deal with it. Mark Anthony certainly understands it as he himself has undergone a lot of losses. But what sets him apart from all the others who are emotionally, physically, and spiritually broken is the promise of hope he carries.

Mark Anthony is a psychic lawyer. He studied law in Georgia’s Mercer University and in England’s Oxford University. He is a renowned practicing attorney in Washington DC and Florida. He also serves the country’s Supreme Court. Although he finds great satisfaction in his own profession, his role goes beyond the courtroom.

As a psychic and medium, he offers one of the most incredible kinds of grief management: connecting people with their loved ones who have already crossed over to the Other Side (which is sometimes called heaven by those who practice religion). In a process called discernment, which can be conducted face-to-face or by phone, Mark Anthony is able to transmit the powerful messages of these loved ones, conveyed in a series of sounds, smell, and images, in the hope that the recipient realizes that he or she has never been forgotten—that life actually goes on but only at a different level. The messages provide warning, love, care, hope, and, most importantly, healing.

By combining his mediumship abilities and law background, Mark Anthony is further able to relate to his clients on a deeper and more personal level. His pleasing and amiable disposition can easily make someone feel more comfortable and thus more receptive to the messages.

Mark Anthony shares the message of hope from the Other Side in many different ways. He talks in several conferences and seminars across universities such as Harvard and Yale. He has appeared on major networks like NBC, Fox, CBS, and ABC. To make grief management more accessible and easier for everyone, he published one of the best-selling books on the subject: Never Letting Go: Heal Grief with Help from the Other Side.

Successful Author and Mental Health Advocate, Andy Behrman

Misdiagnosed … Many times

The thing is, Andy was never properly diagnosed for the disorder that he had. More than eight doctors couldn’t get it right. And finally, when his chronic illness was diagnosed correctly, it’s the treatments this time that failed. Everything that was given or administered to him were not successful at all.

He ingested lots of antidepressants as well as tranquilizers, which he felt made his mind lose traction.

Growing up in New Jersey, Andy described his childhood as happy, but one where he wasn’t comfortable in his own skin. He was a precocious boy, but he felt “different.”

He always had this need to wash his hands a dozen times a day. He stayed awake at night just counting cars that go by. Despite all this, his family never thought anything wrong with him. By the time he was 18 and bound for college, he decided to see the first of many therapists.

Being given so many treatments without a positive result in sight, Andy looked to a final resort: electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). He underwent nineteen electroshock treatments that spanned about a year and a half.

These series of treatments effectively ended his 20 years of undiagnosed and out-of-control bipolar disorder.

Recovery and a book

While convalescing from four months of ECT treatments, Andy wrote his book Electroboy: A Memoir of Mania. He wrote this because he felt that he couldn’t relate to other books about bipolar disorder.

The book not only chronicled his battle with the illness, but it also traced his career in dealing forgeries of Mark Kostabi’s artworks. It reads like a chronicle of a life he lost. Electroboy is both hilarious and harrowing. It depicts a man that is unable to do anything about his desire to just consume. It’s an unforgettable memoir that delights, while at the same time sheds light on mental illness.

Singjaying with Honey B

When you talk about rasta music, the first name that automatically comes to mind is the work of one Bob Marley. He was the one who put this type of music into a more international scale.

It started out as a blending of traditional Jamaican music along with American R&B which soon developed into ska which also progressed into reggae with an influence of soul. Marley made it popular all over the world, and soon a number of artists began incorporating this kind of sound into their own music. There are quite a number of artists who do this, including Peter Tosh, Freddie McGregor and Toots & the Maytals.

This influence is also clearly seen in the music of Honey B. She is a California-based lyricist and singjay. If you’re quite new to the term singjaying, it is basically a Jamaican style of reggae vocals that combines toasting and singing in an elastic format.

This encourages the production of vocal embellishments that are both compelling and texturally impressive. Of course, the performer of such vocals is called a singjay, which is a combination of singer and deejay.

The combination of both singing and deejaying has its early roots in reggae music. One of the earliest performers of singjaying is the artist Michael Rose. He integrated highly rhythmic but somewhat meaningless deejay scatting into his roots songs. By the 1980s, singjaying became a dominant way of expression in Jamaican music.

Her sound is a welcome addition to the world of rasta music and the future is bright as to where her musicality and talent will take her.

If you want to get to know her better, tune in for her Google Hangouts Live interview on The Philippe Matthews Show this coming July 24.

Douyé – Talented Singer and Songwriter on Google Hangouts Live

Her debut album, aptly called “Journey”, narrates her musical and life experiences that brought her into the limelight as a multi-talented artist. It showcased her emotional and seductive voice, which pays homage to the musical talent of iconic artists, through a dreamy and easy musical landscape. What makes the album truly amazing is the collaboration of other musicians to support Douyé. The song “In Love With You”, for instance, features the guitar of Jeff Prescetto, while “Still Hurting” showcased the prowess of Gary Meek on sax. “The Voice”, however, can be considered a defining song, because it amplified the possibility that pop and jazz can cross over. The song showed the other side of Shaddick’s talent, what with it being a ballad rather than a pop song. Combined with the melodic jazz-sounding voice of Douyé, and what you get is a cross-over hit.

Today, Douyé is continuing her musical journey, working on her upcoming sophomore album “So Much Love”. One of the singles with the same title is a tribute to Fela Kuti, a fellow Nigerian-born musician, who is a pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre. All 13 tracks of the album will take listeners on a journey of life’s ups and downs.

dy2nAs what Douyé said, “I try to relate to the everyday person. That’s why when you listen to my songs, it takes you through the journey of everyday living. It’s really about being appreciative of life. Life can be so simple, but we make it so complicated. Live life a little slower and just appreciate the little things that matter.”

Curtis_and_Freeway_PressHe was also contacted about appearing in the N.W.A. (a popular rap group that his father was in) biopic, Straight Outta Compton. He did try out for the role – that of his father – but Dr Dre himself decided against casting out his own son in the role.

Curtis doesn’t mind that this is how things went as well. Although Curtis does have acting experience, Dr Dre wanted someone with more experience. Curtis is even happy for the guy that got the role and agrees that it was what was best for the film. He does mention that his fans were upset, but then he is all in favor of what makes the film a whole lot better.

What’s Next

Curtis has an upcoming album called Product of My DNA. He has been working on it since 2010. Basically, the album will be a story of his life. It’s the album that will define who he is and not just being the son of Dr Dre.

Attorney Angela Winfield Coming via Google Hangouts Live

The College Years

When she graduated from high school, Angela chose to pursue her collegiate studies at Barnard College at Columbia University in New York City. It was during her second year in the institution when she suffered another setback with her vision. This was the time when her uveitis flared up which eventually led her to lose her vision at the age of 20.

Rather than let her loss of sight be a hindrance, she used this as motivation to further succeed. Despite losing her sight, Angela continued to study at Barnard College and even continued her studies at the Queen Mary College in London for a semester.

When her uveitis flared up, she was in the middle of a classroom presentation. Instead of quitting, she continued through it. In her own words, “I winged it.” She just relied on her memory. After that, she had to endure four final exams in two days before she went to see an eye specialist who prescribed medication to her.

Angela openly asked the specialist if she would get her vision back, knowing that it might never be the case. The specialist told her “I hope so.”

Even her college advisers told Angela to take some time off from school so she could adjust to her vision loss. However, she decided to continue on.

It was during her junior and senior year in college when she got a Seeing Eye dog called Ogden, a black Labrador-Golden Retriever mix. She got the dog at the headquarters of the organization in Morristown, New Jersey.

Angela 2

When Angela graduated from college in 2005, she finished with a bachelor’s degree for combined majors in political science and human rights. She also had a minor in religion.

She decided to pursue a law degree and applied to several law schools. She eventually decided on Cornell because of the reputation of the school and because it was close to Auburn.

The Early Years of Ray Grimm: How He Became A Homebased Business Czar

Ray GrimmSo, when exactly does an entrepreneur become an entrepreneur? Ray said that his entrepreneurial quest began at the tender age of 8. For the past two Christmases, Ray had asked for a bike, but he never got his wish granted. What he did when he didn’t get what he wished for was to consider buying the bike himself.

Ray’s family is a working class one that is involved in various aspects of the agricultural industry. Naturally, given this circumstance, Ray’s entrepreneurial inclination slanted in the direction of farming. He bought two rabbits which eventually multiplied and became 11. Of course, from that number, it continued to balloon to 90 until it reached 150. Thanks to the success of his home based business, he was able to buy the bike he always wished about having.

Ray recalled of his earliest entrepreneurial endeavor, “I realized early on that if you found something that duplicated quickly you had the potential to make a lot of money.” His early success gave Ray a glimpse into the basics of bootstrapping – starting a business with as little capital as possible.

It is this early lesson along with a very strong work ethic that has allowed Ray to reach success at the highest levels, and in turn, he is helping others do the same.

Ray The Destined Entrepreneur

It seemed that Ray had been destined for a life of success. At Cal State Fullerton, he has a basketball scholarship. In college, he studied to get a degree in Business Management. His desire for success showed in his athletic tendencies and was soon noticed by the campus.

Not long after, a representative from the Philadelphia Life Insurance Company approached him about selling insurance while he was still attending college. Within six months, Ray became one of the top-selling agents who was writing 20 policies each month. Philadelphia Life was very impressed with this feat that they set up shop right next to campus just for Ray.

A year later, Ray was managing the agency office in California with 40 people working for him. It goes to show that even at a very young age, Ray already had the tenacity to manage, sell and recruit.

After finishing college in 1969, Ray returned back to his roots – working in agriculture. He, along with his cousins, put up a produce company called Grimmway Farms. They developed the proprietary technology to make baby gourmet carrots.

In the 1970s, Ray become the owner and president of Southwest Irrigation Company which pioneered drip irrigation systems that turned that company into the largest one of its kind in Southern California. All of this was achieved in the 10 years he was there.

If you are curious about this man’s many more accomplishments, you should tune in to the Philippe Matthews Show this coming June 22 where Ray Grimm will be interviewed through Google Hangouts Live. RSVP now while the seat’s still hot!

A Glimpse on the Life of Humanitarian, Philanthropist Freeway Rick Ross

Freeway-Rick-Ross (1)

Freeway Rick Ross Photo courtesy of: http://www.blackfilm.com

Ross, a former drug lord, did go to prison for selling drugs, but his good behavior led his sentence to be reduced. He was released in 2009, and he used this opportunity to make his second chance at life a whole lot better.

The year was 1979 and Rick was out of school and looking for a source of living. As life would have it, he was introduced to the world of drugs. The drug business was just so successful for Rick that he was able to make 2 to 3 million dollars a week. However, this sudden accumulation of wealth and power attracted the authorities.

Ross pleaded guilty to the charges and he started serving his 10-year sentence in 1990. Although he was released on parole, he vowed to stay clean, but the past has a way of catching up. He couldn’t turn away from his previous life until finally in 1995 when he was apprehended by officials when he tried to sell drugs.

In 1996, he was sentenced life in prison which was reduced to 20 years. When he was serving time, Ross educated himself and started laying out the foundation for his new chance at life. On May of 2009, he completed his sentence and was released from prison.

After being granted a second chance at life, Ross made the most of it. He became a changed man. He became an inspirational speaker to make the lives of those around him a whole lot better which is really a wonderful feat, same with rap mogul Russell Simmons.

Other than helping the community and doing motivational speeches, he is also the founder of Rick Ross Music. He has also made comments about rap mogul Jay Z’s past with drug dealing. According to Rick, “If you sell drugs there is no rap career waiting as an exit strategy, you will either go to jail for a long time or end up dead.

Rick has also ventured into becoming an author. Of course, the story he wrote is centered on his own personal journey from drug kingpin to what he is today. The book is called “Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Biography” which he wrote with help from Cathy Scott. Another good reading that related to Freeway Rick Ross’ story is the article on the secrets of black millionaires.

Guess Who’s Comoogling Next with Philippe Matthews? Latasha M. Haskins!

Latasha was introduced to pageants in 2007, about two years after she started full figured modeling. It took her around three years of battling through competition before she could be crowned Miss Plus America. She was the 8th woman crowned in that pageant.
Latasha Haskins Ms. Plus
After she finished her reign, she forged a career as a fashion and pageant director. She became notable in this role which ultimately led her to greater heights. By greater heights, this means being the CEO and founder of her very own national pageant system.

Latasha founded Miss Plus USA as a national multiphase competition catered to unmarried women between the ages of 20-30. The competition is also open to teens who are aged 14-19. The requirements of the competition are that these women wear double-digit size.

The creation of Miss Plus USA

Miss Plus USA was created for a number of reasons. First, it was created to expand the experience that Latasha provides beyond the Northwest. Prior to this, Latasha’s work was centered just around the Northwest, as that is where she became fairly known for her work as a fashion and pageant director.

Miss Plus USA, was in a sense, created in order to extend its reach beyond the Pacific Northwest. By doing so, more women across the United States of America would be eligible to compete in productions.

The second reason for the creation of Miss Plus USA was to transform the perception and format of plus size pageantry. The organization was founded to intensify the competition by declaring two national winners who are both going to experience their reign for a year.

Just like any other pageant, Miss Plus USA will have two divisions: one with a limited age bracket of 20 to 30 years old in the Miss Division while the other has an age bracket of 14-19 years old in the Teen Division.

The pageant was made open to teens and women who wear a double-digit size. Miss Plus USA will take place in August of every year in the “Emerald City” of Seattle, Washington. Seattle is a great place – home to coffee shops (Starbucks) and bookstores. Not only that, Seattle is also home to Boeing, Nordstrom, and the historic Space Needle.

The first ever Miss Plus USA Pageant will take place on August 2014. And if you want to know more about it and Ms. Haskins, do watch out for her live interview with Philippe Matthews this coming June 11.

The Road to Becoming a Leading Lady with Daran Grimm

Every experience a person goes through in life shapes who they become in the future. Daran has savored every experience that she has went through in her life, and this has led her to become the Leading Lady in her own screenplay.

Before we dive in to the making of a leading lady, allow this brief announcement that Daran will be guesting on the Philippe Matthews Show via Google Hangouts. Check out the video below for the live show slated for May 31.

From working as a sales representative of Avon to owning three successful businesses, Daran has definitely experienced what it’s like to start from the bottom and reach the top.

Not only is Daran a successful entrepreneur, she and her husband are both leading philanthropists. Daran has been awarded the Childhelp’s Day Hope Corporate Award in Washington D.C. for her efforts. She also serves as Vice President of the Childhelp’s Southern California Auxiliary. For Daran, the act of giving is better than receiving and this is a philosophy that she shares to all those who follow her, be it on social media or in real life.

Daran also doesn’t consider philanthropic efforts as solely the financial kind. She also believes that lending a shoulder to someone to cry on or lending an ear to a friend who has a problem are ways of being philanthropic too.

When it comes to beauty and health, Daran knows a thing or two about them as well. She has worked for a reputable weight loss company in the past, and she has a business that is focused on providing women with anti-aging products.

Since Daran is always looking for ways to inspire women in business, health and beauty, it’s no wonder that she wrote a book that would help women succeed in different areas of their lives.

Daran also understands the power of social media in sharing a message across. And she has made use of several of them to spread the word about women empowerment. So, should you need some wisdom each day, Daran is on the following networks:

Of course, Daran also has her own personal website where you can find more about her and her work.

The Development of a Book

As the author of a book on becoming a leading lady, you might wonder how Daran herself defines a leading lady. Daran looks at a leading lady as someone who lives their life to the fullest. She is someone who maps out her dreams, takes care of her health, loves herself, is genuinely happy, and always laughs, smiles and gives joy to others.

To become a Leading Lady, a woman shouldn’t be afraid to live her life on purpose. She should not live according to the opinion of other people. Basically, a Leading Lady is someone who is a leader in every aspect of her life, be it in business, beauty, health philanthropy, etc.

As someone who has successfully built three businesses, it’s clear that Daran knows what it takes for women to succeed in the field. In a mostly male dominated entrepreneurial world, Daran is equipped with enough experience to allow her to give advice on how women can be leaders in the world of business. And this is something that she shares in her book, Becoming a Leading Lady.

Being a Leading Lady in Business is not the only thing Daran’s book is all about. In it, she details 7 stages on how women can lead an empowered life. To give a brief overview of what’s in her book, these are the following things that she tackles:

  • Stage 1: Leading Lady Wisdom
  • Stage 2: Leading Lady Beauty & Health
  • Stage 3: Leading Lady Spirit
  • Stage 4: Leading Lady Parent/Role Model
  • Stage 5: Leading Lady Wealth & Business
  • Stage 6: Leading Lady Philanthropy
  • Stage 7: Leading Lady Ultimate Life.

This is how the book works: At the end of each stage, women will find a couple of action steps that they will apply to their own personal life.

Every woman has a Leading Lady character hidden deep within them, and all it needs is a little nudge in order for it to be unleashed. And this is exactly where Daran’s book comes in to help. She guides you through seven different stages of how to make your life better, so that by the end of the last stage, you have applied enough tips to enable you to lead a more empowered life.

Capt. Gail Harris with Philippe Matthews on Google Hangouts

Capt_Gail_Harris_ret-239x300Captain Gail Harris’ dream of entering the military started when she was five years old. The particular moment came when she and her father were watching a film called “Wing and a Prayer.” During the scene where the character played by Don Ameche gives an intelligence briefing to Navy pilots following the attack on Pearl Harbor, she turned to her father and said “Daddy, that’s what I’m going to do when I grow up.”

He father was in the Army during the Second World War, a period when it was still segregated. He told his daughter, “This is America. You can be whatever you want.”

While Harris was at Office Candidate School in Rhode Island (she was one of the first women to go through the new intelligence training program), she found out that women were just relegated to desk jobs in Washington, D.C. after their training. She spoke up when a Navy lieutenant went around asking all the men what they wanted their first assignments to be during one of her classes. She said that she wanted to be part of an aviation squadron.

She didn’t just stop there. She had done her homework about the matter too. Through her research, she found that there is no reason why the Navy cannot send a woman to a land-based aviation squadron. The law during that tome was that women cannot deploy on a ship that might go into combat.

She petitioned for the assignment through her chain of command. The Navy ultimately decided to make her a test case.

Life in the Military

Gail Harris joined the Navy on May 16, 1973, and was commissioned through Office Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon her entry into the Navy, she became the first black women to work in military intelligence. She was the fist woman – in a squad of 360 men – that was assigned to an operational combat job as an intelligence officer.

Working as an intelligence officer

Although she was overjoyed at the prospect of working as an intelligence officer, the joyous feeling soon turned into frustration because the job came with low expectations. Harris said that when she arrived at her first assignment, she found out that the squadron just wanted the honor of having the first woman, but they didn’t expect her to do anything. However, Harris did whatever she could in order to prove that she is the right fit for the job and not just a symbol.

Gail started out by covering the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. She also spent three years in Japan, served in the Central Command Naval Forces – which included the Red Sea, Turkey and Bahrain – after the Gulf War and was sent to Greece, Italy and Spain. Her job involved providing intelligence architecture, designing how forces would procure information, deciding what kind of computer systems should be used and determining how many people were needed to accomplish a mission.

Gail’s second assignment was at the Fleet Ocean Surveillance Information Facility. Her job there involved monitoring classified information, putting out news releases to the Navy and ensuring the intelligence she procured got out to all segments of the military.

Her 28-year career in the Navy included hands-on leadership during major conflicts such as the Cold War, El Salvador, Desert Storm and Kosovo.

In August 1988, she was pulled from her Hawaiian assignment 18 months ahead of schedule and was sent to South Korea. There, she headed the Defense Department Intelligence support for the 1988 Olympics for which the task involved extensive coordination with US and South Korean military, intelligence and civil agencies.

Harris is also a Gulf War veteran, having spent extensive time in the Middle East.

Getting Inspiration from Suzanne McQueen – Successful Entrepreneur and Author

Before founding The Phoenix Day Retreat and Lifestyle Center, Suzanne McQueen owned two salons. She sold one and added on to the other in order to create The Phoenix Day Retreat and Lifestyle Center.

Suzanne was also a small business consultant for Suzanne McQueen Consulting. She specialized in the business vision and the client experience. She still does a little bit of consulting because it’s in her blood and she can’t say no when someone asks for help.

She also co-founded a private facial licensing school, Oregon Institute of Aesthetics. According to Suzanne, she didn’t need another business, but she just needed one to find well-trained aestheticians who she can hire at her day spa. So, she co-founded this institution, turned it around, then sold her part. According to Suzanne, she still does guest lectures at the Oregon Institute of Aesthetics.

In her earlier years, Suzanne was a hairdresser. While being in this kind of work, she really came to appreciate the stories that her clients would share with her. This enlightened her to further examine the intimate and rhythmic challenges of her gender.

Suzanne has three grown kids, and is also a hula dancer. She has a passion for teaching girls and women individually or in groups. She teaches all these females about their personal vision and gifts, relationships and business skills. Suzanne also teaches girls and women why they should know themselves a whole lot better, what they deserve and how they should change the world for the better.

From July 2003 up to this day, Suzanne has been involved with 4seasons4weeks.com. According to her, she really enjoys facilitating women’s talking circles and honoring ceremonies. Not only that, she also enjoys creating workshops. She said she loves participating in panel discussions and radio interviews.

Through her conversations with clients working as a hairdresser, Suzanne had a deeper understanding of the varied and intimate challenges of women. She went on a personal journey and emerged with an awakening that revealed the secrets of the feminine rhythm. This experience introduced her to the ancient code found within women, as well as the symbolism of their daily experiences.

Rather than keeping what she discovered to herself, Suzanne decided to put this all in a book. And this turned out to be 4seasons 4weeks. According to Suzanne, she never expected she would be promoting the virtues of the female cycle as a way to attain equality, well-being and enlightenment.

To learn more about this book, you can check out the site, 4seasons 4weeks.

Moreover, you will also get to know her more and be inspired with her success by attending the Google Hangouts on Air interview with Philippe Matthews coming May 1st.

Mica Parris

CEO DrumAddictz forms part of the production team of Sacramento, California-based The DrumAddictz. He is a hip-hop, R&B, pop, and gospel producer.

He & DB both come from a musical background. They formed their production crew in early 2011. They are known for their dynamic instrumentation and their use of melodies and drum patterns. Their sound is heard across Northern California and even in surrounding areas.

Who knows what the future holds for this talented singer-producer pairing? But they are off to a good start creating good music together.

Mica Parris‘ real name is Michaelle and she was born to a Haitian mother and African-American, Native-American father. She was born in Santa Rosa, California, but she was raised in Portland, Oregon. Avid followers of NBC’s The Voice might recognize her as the winner of the “Artist on the Rise” competition. For that, she won an opportunity to get mentored by singer Monica.

Mica’s talent for singing was discovered at the tender age of three. Since that time, she has been found singing in church school choir concerts and musicals. She did this throughout elementary school and up to college. Her voice was further enhanced when her mother enrolled her in piano and vocal lessons when she was 13.

Her singing style is rooted in old school soul, but with touches of modern R&B and Top 40 pop-rock. Needless to say, this girl has some really killer pipes!

Her sound is unique yet vividly familiar, which is propelled her to get noticed for the “Artist on the Rise” prize. She is also a RocDaMicLa/Warner Bros. Records showcase winner.

Mica’s musical inspirations are varied. She admires Tiffany Evans, Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, Rihanna, Keri Hilson, and India Arie.

Not only is Mica a talented singer, but she is also an experienced performer. Her captivating stage presence coupled with unique tone has allowed her to perform in various concerts, weddings, singing competitions, and night clubs. She is also a member of a capella sextet vocal group. She has also been flown across the country to perform live for a healthcare organization, which was a televised production for their Centennial Anniversary. She also recorded a jingle for the organization.

Mica has also sung alongside notable artist and multi-Grammy winner Skyler Jett. She has also opened for the likes of BB Kings in NYC, Christopher Williams of The New Jack City movie, Dawn Richard (formerly of Diddy’s Dirty Money), and Danity Kane of Bad Boy Entertainment.

She has also sung back up on the same stage as Brian McKnight, SWV, Boyz II Men, Bell Biv Devoie, Michel’le, Jon B, and Al B Sure in the Ladies Night Out Concert series.

Mica has also had the privilege of working with talented producers, including a 4-time, Dove-award winning producer to remake Disturbia by Rihanna. This particular remake was distributed to Bally’s Total Fitness as a workout track and even reached the Top 40’s in its genre on iTunes.

A good song is usually the product of very hard work by two very different groups of people – the singer and the producer. A producer helps transform a song into a tune that people would want to hear. An artist serves as the heart of the song, a person that provides the vocals in a very convincing manner that will have listeners begging for more.

Think about Mariah Carey in her early success when Tommy Mottola enlisted the top producers during that time to make her debut a success. Names such as Ric Wake, Narada Michael Walden, and Rhett Lawrence were employed to turn Mariah into a singing star, and look at where she is now.

Successful singer-producer combinations aren’t just for solo artists. In fact, successful boybands of the past, Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC, worked with a set of producers who knew how best to showcase the vocals of these groups to their audience.

Although still in the starting stages, a very successful future can also be in the cards for singer Mica Parris and producer CEO DrumAddictz. It’s still a bit early which is why we can call them Mica Parris & CEO: Sacramento’s Best Voice & Producer on the Rise.

“Make glorious, amazing mistakes.”

The Daily Post

In Neil Gaiman’s now famous 2012 commencement speech at the University of the Arts, he offers some excellent advice to free us from perfectionism, imploring us to simply create — to make art — no matter what. What’s wonderful about this advice is that it applies to any creative endeavour, regardless of whether your art form is writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, or découpage:

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good…

8 lessons 3rd graders can teach you to have an extraordinary life

This summer has been amazing. Lots of family adventures and travel. I’ve got some images from a trip to Santa Fe I can’t wait to show you (soon!). I’m always a bit melancholy at the end of August, but there’s also some excitement mixed in there to get back at it.

As I head back to my classroom tomorrow, I will enter a place where I learn as well…A LOT, actually. I love letting go of the technology that has grabbed hold in our house with our teens. I love embracing the fact that I need to give all of my attention, because 8 and 9-year-olds require all of you most of the time. I am happy to give it to them. In fact, it’s nice to have someone want your attention and guidance sans grumbling! I have been making a list of what the small people in my life have taught…

Recommended Reading: I Thought My Father Was God

The Daily Post

In April 1946, Theodore Lustig was discharged after serving three years in the army in World War II. Heading home on a train to New Jersey, he had grand plans for his new life. First, he bought a white shirt: a symbol of his return to a normal routine. The next step? Finding the girl of his dreams: his high school crush.

In his very short piece — “What If?” — he writes:

We got on the same bus — hers — and sat together reminiscing about the past and talking about the future. I told her of my plans and showed her the shirt I had bought — my first step toward making my dream come true. I didn’t tell her that she was supposed to be step two.

What If?” is just one story among the 180 true stories in I Thought My Father Was God: And Other True Tales From…
